Adrien's Story

Words: Sean Weide Stripes Date: 4 March 2015

Adrien 2

How do you top becoming the first American to win the Tour de Bretagne in the prestigious race's 50-year history? How about a runner-up finish overall to go along with best young rider and king of the mountain honors at the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah?

"It was definitely special in Utah," Costa said. "I think we finally earned the respect of the pro peloton. Cannondale was letting us ride the front, together as a team. It was pretty amazing to have all the guys around me that I could count on. It was the first big race I had done with the team and I realized how lucky I was to have a group of guys around me. It really opened my eyes to the team's potential."

The potential for more success for Costa in his second season with the team is not only likely, but also expected, given his early season media attention. His 12 top-three finishes – which led to a stagiaire gig with WorldTour team Etixx-Quick Step in August – were second only to teammate Neilson Powless.

"I learned a ton last year in the Under 23 ranks, not only regarding the length of the season and the amount of races you do but also how to manage the racing on and off the bike," he said. "I am looking forward to putting these lessons into action. I hope to have a nice, incredible season without too many lows."
