Ivo's Story

Words: Chad Childers Stripes Date: 10 March 2018

Ivo 1

It is not just fans of the Axeon Hagens Berman Cycling Team who might have trouble telling Ivo Oliveira and his identical twin brother, Rui, apart from one another.

The program's first set of twins in ten seasons may have tripped up a teammate or two – and plenty of staffers – at the team's first training camp. But once they get into races, there's always that bib or frame number to rely on.

"I have always raced on the same team together with my brother," Ivo says. "Sometimes he is the lead out man for me. I will try to be the best teammate I can be and step-by-step learn how to become a better racer."

Like the previous year, the reigning Portuguese national champion got off to a swift start on the track winning a silver medal at the UCI Track World Championships in the individual pursuit as well as a 4th place finish in the Omnium.
