Ecuador's reigning Under 23 national time trial champion will not only be able to show his skills in races against the clock this season, his first with the Axeon Hagens Berman Cycling Team. Jhonatan Narvaez is also a superb climber who rode away with the king of the mountains title at the Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc last year.
Add to that three silver medals earned in Pan American Games competition as a junior and a promising season awaits. Already this year, Narvaez has found success competing in a three-day race in his home country by scoring the team's first road race victory of the season. But his ambitions for a successful season start with being a good teammate, he says.
"I want to make our sport directors happy by helping the other guys to win races," he said. "I think I do my best in climbing because in the area of my home there isn't very much flat ground.
