Rui's Story

Words: Chad Childers Stripes Date: 10 March 2018

Rui 1

Like his identical twin brother, Ivo, Rui Oliveira is someone you are sure to see in the bunch sprints.

Now which brother will be finishing ahead of the other is a question much like the scenario of figuring out how you can tell them apart.

"Sometimes he does a better sprint. Sometimes it is me. It depends on the race," Rui said. "But I feel that I also have more potential than just doing well in sprints."

I feel that I also have more potential than just doing well in sprints." His 2017 eclipsed his previous year (he missed half the season after fracturing his femur in 2016) with two, 2nd place stage finishes at the Joe Martin Stage Race and placing 8th in GC.

Rui took to the track at the start of 2018, earning a bronze medal in the men’s madison racing with his brother at the Tissot UCI World Cup in Minsk, Belarus.

Rui placed 5th in the scratch race at the UCI Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
