Will's Story

Words: Chad Childers Stripes Date: 10 March 2018

Will 1

The magnitude of his accomplishment did not immediately occur to Will Barta until after he had starred in the breakaway on Stage 2 of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California and pulled on the "most courageous rider" jersey that year.

"I never thought I would hear (veteran cycling TV broadcaster) Paul Sherwen call my name," Barta said. "I heard from a lot of friends and family members and even people I didn't know were following me until that day."

Now in his fourth season with the team, he hopes to capitalize on additional opportunities and his 2017 successes of finishing 4th at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, 9th overall at Triptyque de Monts et Chateaux, and runner-up at U23 Nationals in the time trial.

"This year I want to win Liege, race well at the Giro and l’Avenir, and move up to the World Tour," he said.
