Fountain Hills, Arizona – Christopher Blevins won two of three stages on his way to winning the Specialized Cactus Cup mountain bike event Sunday at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Arizona.
The reigning U.S. national junior mountain biking champion captured the Short Track and the Super D and finished runner-up to 12-time national champion Todd Wells in the 40-mile Fat Tire race.
New to the Axeon Hagens Berman Cycling Team, Blevins was competing for the first time this season.
"It was a great tune up for the start of the road season, the then-18-year-old said. (He turned 19 on Tuesday.)
Blevins beat Wells in the Short Track race by four seconds on Friday to don the overall leader's jersey. Saturday, he finished in the same time as Wells in the Fat Tire race before securing his victory Sunday with an 18-second win in the Super D.
