Hagens Berman Axeon is excited to announce the signing of André Carvalho. The Portuguese rider from Vila Nova de Famalicão joins Axeon from Liberty Seguros - Carglass.

“Joining Hagens Berman Axeon means a lot to me,” said Carvalho. “It's a big step in my career and a great opportunity to compete in the biggest U23 races. I'm really looking forward to being there and helping the team.”

The runner-up at the 2017 Road National Championships spent a significant amount of time racing in 2018, winning the U23 GP Liberty Seguros and placing 2nd in both the U23 Portugal Cup and 2nd in the youth classification at Volta ao Algarve. He was also 11th at GP Portugal “Nacional 2” and earned 3rd place at the 2018 Portuguese Road National Championships. Carvalho earned an impressive top-15 finish at the European Championships back in July.

When asked where he thinks he’ll make the biggest impact for the team next season, Carvalho said, “I think I am a rider who can deal with all kinds of parcours. But I'm strongest in steep and short climbs, and well-suited for races like the Classics.” The 21-year-old hopes to improve on longer climbs and in the time trial.

Carvalho is the fifth rider to join the 2019 Hagens Berman Axeon roster.
