Wil Holmes delivered a breakout ride at the Australian Road National Championships, winning the U23 men’s time trial by just one second. Racing for Hagens Berman Jayco, Holmes stopped the clock fastest on the 29.3 km Perth course, mastering the rolling terrain, technical corners, and short climbs to edge his nearest rival by the narrowest of margins and secure the national title.
After the finish, Holmes said, “I’m super happy to pull this off and start the year well. It’s been a lot of hard work, and the team’s been really supportive.” Team owner Axel Merckx added, “We couldn’t be more excited for Wil. To start the season with a national championship like this says a lot about his commitment and the work the whole group has put in. It’s an incredible way to kick off the new year for our team.”
