Lonestar state native and two-time stage winner at the 2019 Tour de l’Abitibi, Lucas Bourgoyne, is embarking on his rookie season with the Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team in 2021. Lucas also found success at the 2019 Tour de DMZ in South Korea, winning stage 2 and placing in the top 8 on two of the other four stages. Lucas joins Axeon from Elevate - Webiplex Pro Cycling.
“Joining Hagens Berman Axeon means I am now a part of one of the most successful cycling development programs of all time,” said an excited Lucas. “I have to strive to meet that level of excellence everyday.”
Lucas is looking to take his strengths straight into the racing season. On the bike, he focuses on hard days with fast finishes. Off the bike, he tries keeping things light hearted. “We’re all here to compete and do our best and there’s no reason to add any extra pressure to that,” he said. The 19-year-old hopes to keep honing his bike skills in the European peloton.
“Lucas is a talented bike racer and a fast finisher,” said sport director Jeff Louder. “He has proven to have the ability to read a race and find ways to get a result. I am looking forward to seeing him use his past experiences to continue to grow his talents and make an impact for the team.”
