Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team continued it’s five year connection with Portugal in signing the 2018 Portuguese Junior National Road Race champion, Pedro Andrade, in 2020. The then 19-year-old from Santa Maria da Feira joined Axeon from Vito-Feirense-Pnb.
“Joining Hagens Berman Axeon was a dream come true,” said Pedro. “I'm very motivated to continue competing and helping the team.”
Since his 2018 national championship, Andrade earned a victory at stage 4 of the 2019 Gp Abimota. He was recently 3rd in the general classification at Volta a São Miguel as well as 3rd at Volta as Terras Santa Maria. In Getxo, Spain, Andrade earned a top 20 placement at Circuito de Getxo (1.1).
Exceling on both short and long climbs, he hopes to aid the team when he’s called upon. The versatile rider will also look to make short group sprints count, where his surprising speed really benefits him.
With only a small amount of racing in 2020 due to Covid-19, Pedro made the best of his opportunities finishing 3rd at the Portuguese National Championships in the time trial and 5th in the road race. He was 27th at Paris-Tours Espoirs.
Pedro hopes to continue to focus on improving his time trialing and technical skills throughout the 2021 season. “This year I’m most looking forward to being, helping, and giving everything I can for the team,” he said.
