Redlands Classic, Stage 1: Curran Eighth

Redlands, California – Geoffrey Curran finished eighth for the Axeon Hagens Berman Cycling Team Wednesday in the Greenspot Time Trial, the opening stage of the Redlands Bicycle Classic.

The reigning Under 23 national time trial and road champion piloted his Specialized Shiv time trial bike to a time of 14:51 on the out-and-back, 11-kilometer course. That was 11 seconds off the winning time of Serghei Tvetkov (Jelly Belly presented by Maxxis). Gavin Mannion (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team) was runner-up in the same time as Tvetkov and Mannion's teammate, Alex Cataford, was third, two seconds slower.

Axeon Hagens Berman's other four riders and their finishes: Jhonatan Narvaez (22nd, at 32 seconds); Christopher Blevins (31st, at 39 seconds); Jonny Brown (52nd, at 59 seconds) and Michael Rice (101st, at 1:35).

Thursday's Stage 2 is the City of Yucaipa Road Race. At 151.7 kilometers, it comprises six laps of a course and begins at 9:40 a.m. PDT.
