Ethiopian National Champ Bizaye Redae Signs with Hagens Berman Axeon

The 2024 season for the Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team will take an exciting new step with the signing of its first national champion from an African nation, Bizaye Redae. Bizaye joins the Axeon squad from Team Guna Trading PLC.

“Joining Hagens Berman Axeon was my top wish, so it is an honor to join the best development team,” said Bizaye. “This opportunity gives me courage to upgrade my skills and grow up, and become one of the top cyclists in the world. For me, joining Axeon is a great way to improve, upgrade, and succeed in my career dreams. I am feeling confident in reaching my cycling goals next year.”

Bizaye’s 2023 Palmares:
National Championships Ethiopia ME Road Race - 1st place
National Championships Ethiopia ITT - 3rd place

The 20-year-old from Mekelle, Ethiopia considers himself strong in high mountain climbing, sprinting, and time trials. “Next year, I hope to upgrade my riding skills and explore new skills,” he said. “I also hope to improve my endurance, strength, muscular endurance, and build up long ride capacity.”

“Bizaye is a very talented young rider that will explore European cycling within the HBJ program,” said team owner and director Axel Merckx. “He has shown great potential and we will guide him and give him the support he needs in order to fulfill his dream to become a WorldTour rider.”

Bizaye is the ninth rider announced to the 2024 Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team after Ben Wiggins, Hamish McKenzie, Mattia Sambinello, Adam Rafferty, Samuele Privitera, Evan Boyle, Darren Parham, and Matthew Cole.
