Rauna, Latvia - Krists Neilands won the Latvian Under 23 national time trial title for the third consecutive time Wednesday while averaging 43.7 kilometers an hour on his Specialized Shiv.

The 21-year-old covered the 35-kilometer course in 47 minutes and 58 seconds, 1:31 faster than runner-up Eriks Toms Gavars and 2:38 ahead of Mareks Kampe.

"The course was hillier and much harder than last year," Neilands said. "I felt really good and I did a good result. I am really happy about my third national championship title in the time trial."

The victory was his second of the season. Earlier this month, he won the Jurmalas Velomaratons, also in his home country.

Neilands will try to defend his national Under 23 national road title on Sunday.
