Axeon Hagens Berman Signs Winner of Ronde van Vlaanderen Juniors Maikel Zijlaard for 2018

Axeon Hagens Berman is excited to announce the first new addition to the 2018 roster with the signing of Dutch rider Maikel Zijlaard.

Zijlaard, 18, of Rotterdam, Netherlands, is the 2017 Ronde van Vlaanderen juniors champion.

In addition to being the winner of the Tour of Flanders Juniors, Zijlaard finished 10th in Paris-Roubaix Espoirs, 1st in Omloop van de Maasvallei, 1st in Zepperen-Zepperen, was a 2-time stage winner in Axel, and finshed 2nd in GC at Acht van Bladel.

“Riding for Axeon Hagens Berman is a dream come true for me.” Zijlaard said. “I knew the team was full of strong talented riders and I'm really happy to be part of this group next year.”

"Our goal has always been to help the next generation of professional cyclists," Axel Merckx said. "I am confident Maikel will fit in nicely on our team in 2018, and am excited to see what the future holds for him."

Axeon Hagens Berman will continue to announce its 2018 news becomes available. The 2017 team will be back in action on July 31, 2017 at the Tour of Utah.
