The Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team is thrilled to complete its 2024 roster with the signing of Alastair Mackellar. Alastair joins the Axeon squad from Israel Premier Tech Academy.
“It means a lot to join Hagens Berman Axeon next year,” said Alastair. “I feel the team has been highly regarded as one of the best U23 teams in the world for many years now, so to be able to join such a well renowned team with such talented riders past and present is special.”
Alastair’s Palmares:
2023 Australian U23 National Championships Road Race - 1st place
2023 Australian U23 National Championships ITT - 1st place
2023 World U23 Championships ITT - 12th place
2022 Tour of Slovakia - 11th place GC
“Winning both national titles means the most to me with how much hard work I had put in prior,” said Alastair. “But my stage win at Torres Vedras in 2021 was also super special seeing as it was my first UCI win and was only within my first few months in Europe.”
The 21-year-old from Mooloolaba, Australia finds that he excels in breakaways and medium mountain days. He is always working on his time trail to improve in the discipline. “Next year, I hope to improve in all areas of cycling as well as growing as a person and athlete and embracing a new environment with the team change, which I’m really looking forward to,” he said.
“With all of the young riders we hired, I needed to add some U23 experience in the team,” said team owner and director Axel Merckx. “Alastair has had great results and will also fulfill a role as a captain for the younger riders on the team.”
Alastair is the eleventh and final rider signed to the 2024 Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team after Ben Wiggins, Hamish McKenzie, Mattia Sambinello, Adam Rafferty, Samuele Privitera, Evan Boyle, Darren Parham, Matthew Cole, Bizaye Redae, and Adam Holm Jørgensen.
