The Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team is thrilled to finalize its 2022 roster with the addition of Toby Perry. Toby joins Axeon from Equipo La Tova - Asesoría Almudévar in Spain.

“I'm really excited to be joining Hagens Berman Axeon,” said Toby. “Signing for HB Axeon shows all my hard work over the last few years has paid off to be noticed by one of the top development teams.”

The Ashford, United Kingdom native had quite the year of racing in 2021. Toby won his very first race in Spain, Memorial Zunzarren-Estella, and didn’t stop there. In May, he won GPVila - Real, then won the general classification at the Vuelta a Alicante where he won the first stage and placed 2nd and 4th in the remaining stages. Toby later won Challenge B-Guara-2 and Fiestas de Barbastro [he also won the Valencia National Championships but was unable to receive the champion’s jersey because he is not Spanish].

The 21-year-old considers his best strengths to be at digging deep and pushing throughout the race. “I love a brutal race where the pressure is constant,” he said. “I am looking forward to improving my ability to work with the team and to become a more well rounded rider.”

“Toby is a bit of a more seasoned rider that I hope will bring experience to our fairly young team,” said team owner and director Axel Merckx. “He’s shown that he is a very strong rider and seems to have found the formula to win, and proved it by winning a few races in Spain. I believe he deserves an opportunity to show himself on the biggest stage and I hope we can give him that. At the same time, I look forward to him bringing some maturity and experience to help the young riders develop for the future.”

Toby is the sixth and final rider to join the 2022 Hagens Berman Axeon roster after Kasper Anderson, Darren Rafferty, Jack Drage, Dries de Pooter, and Iván Romeo.
