Axel Merckx is a world-renowned retired Belgian cyclist who retired to British Columbia, Canada, in 2007. Born in 1972 in Uccle, Belgium, he is the son of one of the strongest cyclist of all time Eddy Merckx. Axel himself enjoyed a stellar racing career, earning the bronze medal in the Olympic road race in 2004, winning one stage of the Giro d’Italia in 2000, the same year that he was the Belgian national road champion. He began his professional cycling career in 1993 as a member of the Motorola Cycling Team. Most recently, Axel has become synonymous with the success of the Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team as the squad’s director and now, owner.

Cicli Pinarello S.R.L. is one of the most famous and winning bike manufacturers in the world. Founded in Treviso (Italy) in 1952 by Giovanni (Nani) Pinarello, its focus was to produce the highest end racing bikes. The name, Pinarello, recalls legendary victories of the greatest cyclists of all time: since 1975, the first victory in Giro d’Italia with Fausto Bertoglio, Pinarello has won all of the most important races in the world, including Olympics, World Championships and Tour de France.
