Axeon Hagens Berman is excited to announce the final rider signing for the 2018 season, Portuguese 2016 Junior Road Race and ITT National Champion João Almeida. The nineteen-year-old from Caldas da Rainha joins Axeon from Unieuro Trevigiani - Hemus 1986.

In addition to his Junior National Road and Time Trial Championships, Almeida won the 2016 Volta a Portugal de Juniores Liberty Seguros after winning all three stages of the competition (he was also the winner of the points classification).

Almeida launched into the 2017 season with wins on the final stage of Terre di Toscana and stage 3 of the Tour of Mersin. In May, Almeida bested the field on stage 4 at the Tour of Ukraine, one that propelled him on to claim the Youth Classification title on the final day.

“Joining Hagens Berman Axeon means a lot for me,” said Almeida. “I will become a professional and work with Axel and all of the staff; it’s a dream come true. I can't wait for it!”

Almeida is the seventh and final rider to join the 2018 Hagens Berman Axeon roster. Almeida joins previous signees Thomas Revard, Mikkel Bjerg, Jasper Philipsen, Zeke Mostov, Cole Davis, and Maikel Zijlaard.
