Andre 1

Andre Carvalho was the fifth rider from Portugal to join the program last year, following in the footsteps of alumni riders Ruben Guerreiro, Ivo Oliveira, Rui Oliveira, and João Almeida.

The 22-year-old from Vila Nova de Famalicão joined Axeon from Liberty Seguros - Carglass. Carvalho described joining Hagens Berman Axeon as a big step in his career and a great opportunity to compete in the biggest U23 races.

The runner-up at the 2017 Road National Championships spent a significant amount of time racing in 2018, winning the U23 GP Liberty Seguros and placing 2nd in both the U23 Portugal Cup and 2nd in the youth classification at Volta ao Algarve. In 2019, Carvalho earned top 5 finishes at Liège - Bastogne - Liège U23 and Paris-Roubaix Espoirs. He also placed 4th at the U23 Portuguese National Championships.

For 2020, Carvalho kept his goals straightforward and simple, “I just want to do the best I can, be myself, and grab all the chances the team gives me,” he said.
