Chris' Story

Words: Sean Weide Stripes Date: 4 March 2015

Chris 1

Great Britain's national criterium champion arrived to the Axeon Hagens Berman Cycling Team through a stroke of luck when a planned ride with a pro continental team fell through.

But one team's loss is another team's gain. And given the results Lawless earned in 2016, he is going to be a strong asset whenever a race finishes in bunch sprint. However, it was the performance Lawless delivered in the RideLondon Classic that often comes to mind.

"That race was a bit of a surreal experience," he said. "It was probably the best I had been climbing all year. I was usually in a select group, looking around. I saw guys like Chris Froome and a few other big names and thought, 'This is usually not the situation for me.' It was quite the confidence-booster for me, just knowing I can climb like that on a given day."
