Joao's Story

Words: Chad Childers Stripes Date: 10th March 2018

Joao 1

Joao Almeida joins Hagens Berman Axeon as the fourth rider from Portugal, following in the footsteps of alumni rider Ruben Guerreiro, and current riders Ivo and Rui Oliveira.

After hearing about the team and following the team’s social media accounts, Almeida turned a dream into a reality by setting high goals for himself and working hard.

Almeida made a name for himself in 2016 when he became Portugal’s Road Race and Time Trial Junior National Champion. In 2017, he followed suit with stage wins at Terre di Toscana, Tour of Mersin, and the Tour of Ukraine.

When asked what he is looking forward to the most this year he responded, “evolving, getting better, every day, every race, not just me, but as a team.”
