Jonny's Story

Words: Chad Childers Stripes Date: 10 March 2019

Jonny 1

Previously, it was the 2016 USA Cycling U23 National Road Championships that was one of Jonny Brown's most memorable moments. But it was last year’s 2018 USA Cycling Pro Road Race National Championship that will forever stay with the Tennessee native when he took a late chance going solo off the front of a small group and held on to win.

“Even with 1 km to go I was still super nervous and wasn't really sure how far of a gap I had,” said Brown. “Even though Clinch Ave wasn't long, if your legs are dead and you have a group of 3 charging from behind, you can lose a lot of time. Not until I took the final turn at 150 meters to go did I know that I had just won US Pro! It was an unreal feeling having my fiancé and brother right there at the finish line. It just made it that much more special.”

Brown is the youngest rider ever to win a US Pro Road title.

The younger brother of former Axeon rider Nathan Brown – who is now in his fourth year with the team – said his aim last year was to change things up and do more racing in Europe. The 21-year-old believes that his experience doing so was a major catalyst in not only his ability but also his confidence.
