Another rider that joined the team after an extremely successful 2017 is the Ronde van Vlaanderen Juniors Champion, Maikel Zijlaard. The Dutchman also notched victories at Omloop van de Maasvallei and Zepperen-Zepperen as well as an impressive 10th place finish at Paris-Roubaix Espoirs. It’s no surprise that the Tour of Flanders Juniors Champion prefers the Classics and races in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Zijlaard reflecting on his first year with Hagens Berman Axeon said, “I think 2018 was a good year for me. I learned a lot from both my teammates and the races I did. I felt that I was getting better and better as the season continued.”

The 19-year-old is looking forward to 2019 and continuing to learn, grow, and get stronger. He also remains focused on working together with teammates to earn victories. “Maybe we can get some wins together because we have a really strong team again this year,” he said.
