Making the move from Hincapie / LEOMO p/b BMC, 20-year-old Sam Janisch joins the Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team after missing much of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Joining the team means a lot to me,” said Samuel. “It’s a huge honor to follow in the footsteps of the alumni that have come through the program. It’s a big opportunity, and creates a lot of motivation on and off the bike.”
Born in Wauwatosa, WI, Samuel considers himself a well-rounded rider, though his strengths lean more towards climbing. He considers starting out in the sport experiencing a lot of “punchy racing” has given him a good balance. For 2021, he hopes to gain experience at a higher level to propel him to become a better racer and teammate.
“Sam comes to the team with limited experience but a great engine,” said sport director Jeff Louder. “He has been on a steady progression and joining Hagens Berman Axeon is an obvious next step after, like what was for most, a contracted 2020. Racing an international calendar with a deep roster of experienced riders will be a great opportunity for him to learn and develop. I am interested to see what he does with Axeon and think it will be a great fit for him and us.”
